Thank You, Volunteers!

Each year, we celebrate National Volunteer Week to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers give to our mission. Our work at Windom Area Health (WAH) would not be possible without their support!

We are fortunate to have several volunteer-led groups. Our Governing Board, led by members in our community, provides organizational oversight. As the charitable arm of WAH, the Foundation Board enhances healthcare services and operates its own funds. Some of these Governing and Foundation Board members have given years and years in these roles, while working full-time and raising families.

Members on the Patient & Family Advisory Committee share strategic input on improving the patient experience across the entire WAH campus. Our Auxiliary, who celebrated their 50th Anniversary year, provided 1,966 services hours in 2023. Raffles, bake sales, and craft sales have raised over $300,000 toward vital hospital equipment since the group began.

If you know someone in one of these groups, join us in thanking them for their contributions.

When I ask volunteers, like our Patient Guides, why they give of their time, many of them say, “I love this community and I want to give back,” or “I love being able to make a positive difference in someone’s day.” Others, who are in retirement following a fulfilling career, tell me, “I still got gas left in the tank!”

Think about how many volunteers you encounter in a given week. School activities leaders, quilters, fundraiser dinner hosts, church ministry leaders, Meals on Wheels drivers, food shelf workers, babysitters, board members, to name a few. Some of the most important services in our community rely on volunteers. We were glad to have several new men and women volunteer to be Patient Guides and Shuttle Bug drivers at Windom Area Health this past winter.

With nonprofits all over the state and country, we say “Thank You!” to our volunteers during this April 21 – 27 recognition week.

Interested in volunteering? Do you have expertise, resources, or availability that could help make Windom Area Health better?
