Job Openings

Patient Access Representative

Windom Area Health is seeking a full-time Patient Access Representative to provide excellent customer service to patients. Primary role includes scheduling patient visits, tests and procedures. This position will perform prior authorization on select services, register/pre-register patients, follow up on patient information, and provide ER registration desk coverage. Applicants must have a high school diploma. Previous experience in a health care setting is required, or the equivalent in a medical related degree. Weekday hours! This position is eligible for PTO/Sick time, health insurance, free dental coverage, PERA, and many other benefits.

Medical Records Coder

Windom Area Health is seeking a self-directed and highly motivated individual for a full-time Medical Records Coder position.  Qualified candidates will be credentialed as an RHIT or CCS, or achieve designation within 6 months.  Candidates must have knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD-10-CM/PCS, various medical specialties and familiarity with working on claim denials.  The position is responsible for managing and coding a variety of outpatient and inpatient records using ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT coding systems, obtaining admission certification from third party payers for inpatient admissions, conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis, and computing statistical reports.  Work from home options available, after training period.

Growth & Development Coordinator

We are seeking an outgoing individual to drive market growth and visibility for various Windom Area Health services, focusing mainly on the Wound & Hyperbaric Healing Center. Promotes services to potential patients, facilities, and referral partners through personal visits, phone calls/emails, presentations and community events. 32 hours per week, flexible weekday hours, and may include evenings/weekends for events. Bachelors degree in marketing/communications, business or healthcare related field, with at least 2 years of sales experience, or an equivalent combination. Healthcare sales/promotion experience preferred. We offer a competitive salary and great benefit package!

Patient Account Representative

Windom Area Health seeks a highly motivated individual for a Patient Account Representative to work 32 hours a week. Responsibilities include submitting insurance claims to all types of plans, reviewing claim denials and coordinating appeals or resubmissions, working with patients on billing questions, collecting on past due accounts and setting up payment plans, and staying educated on insurance and governmental claim submission processes and regulations. Applicants must have a minimum of a high school diploma.  Minimum one year of previous experience in a healthcare office environment, health insurance billing, registration, or coding. Coursework in accounting or healthcare support (i.e. coding, billing, medical secretary) preferred.

Patient Financial Counselor

Windom Area Health seeks a highly motivated individual for a Patient Financial Counselor to work 32-40 hours a week. Responsibilities include assisting patients in person or on the telephone to resolve all issues relative to their account, providing information regarding anticipated expenses, insurance coverage, payment options/resources, and financial assistance programs, determining acceptable payment plans and continuing to follow-up on accounts until conclusion, handle bankruptcy and other write offs along with communications to Government agencies, attorney offices and third-party agencies. Applicants must have an Associate’s Degree in business or a healthcare related program or 2 years relevant healthcare or collection experience in lieu of education preferred. Familiarity with patient billing or county/community resources preferred.

Health Unit Coordinator

Windom Area Health is seeking a full-time Health Unit Coordinator in our nursing unit (.9 FTE). The position serves as a multipurpose support to the nursing staff; assisting with patient care, registering patients, cleaning instruments, stocking, answering phones and greeting visitors. CNA, Medical Assistant or medical secretary background preferred, but not required. Experience in healthcare preferred. This position will work a combination of days/evenings, and rotating weekends and holidays. 

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) PRN

We are looking for a Licensed Practical Nurse to work on a casual basis (PRN) to provide superior and compassionate care to our wound patients in the Wound & Hyperbaric Healing Center. Under the direction of the Nurse Manager the LPN will provide wound related patient care including intake and discharge with some HBO coverage. Minimum of a LPN license required and wound care experience preferred but not required. Upcoming grads welcome to apply! 

Surgery Manager

Windom Area Health is seeking a full-time Surgery Manager to provide leadership for our surgery department.  This position leads the department’s clinical, operational and managerial activities to provide safe and effective patient care.  Bachelor’s degree in nursing required. A minimum of 5  years of OR experience required but would consider a combination of 3 years surgery experience with 2-3 years tertiary ICU and/or ER experience. A minimum of two years of proven healthcare leadership required. Must be willing to fill in for on-call after hours, holidays, and weekends and respond within designated time when needs require. 

Benefit Summary

Paid Time Off (PTO) Time off with pay is accrued for personal (vacation, holiday, illness, or other) needs. PTO accumulates from the date of hire and may be used only after the Orientation period is complete. A limit of 320 hours can be carried at any time. Once an employee reaches that level, they will stop accruing PTO until time is used. For purposes of the table below, one year of service is the equivalent of 2,080 hours paid.

Sick Leave Bank

Accrued bank of hours to be used for illness related to you or an eligible family member, lasting 2 or more days. Sick bank hours accumulate based on hours paid and can be carried over with a maximum accrual of 960 hours. The accrual rate is .0192 per hour paid. Sick Leave Bank hours may not be used until the Orientation period is complete.

Bereavement Leave

Full-time and regular part-time employees are eligible to receive bereavement leave. Days provided differ based on family relationship.

Holiday Pay

Time and one-half (1 ½) an employee’s regular rate of pay will be paid to any employee working on a designated holiday observance including New Year’s Day (1/1), Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Independence Day (7/4), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day (12/25).

Health Insurance

Windom Area Health provides health insurance through Medica. Coverage options include single, single + spouse, single + child(ren) and family coverage. WAH pays 75% – 80% of the total premium for full-time employees and regular part-time employees. Full-time employees are eligible for health insurance on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment. Part-time employees are eligible on the first day of the month following 60 days of employment. Open enrollment occurs once each year (normally in November).

Dental Insurance

Windom Area Health provides 100% of the cost of dental insurance for full-time employees.  Employees are able to 'buy up' for family members or for richer dental plan coverage. FT employees are eligible on the first of the month after 30 days.

Vision Insurance

Windom Area Health provides vision insurance through EyeMed. Coverage options include employee, employee + 1, employee + children and family coverage.  Full time employees are eligible for vision insurance on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment.  Part time employees are eligible on the first day of the month following 60 days of employment.

Life Insurance

Life insurance options are provided through Hartford. Employees have a guaranteed issue of $100,000 and can obtain up to $300,000 of coverage based on medical underwriting. Spouse and dependent coverage is also available. Costs vary depending on age and amount elected.

Supplemental Insurance

AFLAC provides a variety of insurance options. AFLAC insurance options include, but are not limited to, short-term disability, cancer protection, accident insurance, life insurance, and dental insurance.

FLEX Spending

The FSA is a pre-tax savings plan for unreimbursed medical or dependent (child or elderly) care expenses. WAH matches employee contributions into the medical plan up to $10/month for full time and $5/month for regular part-time employees.

Legal/ID Shield

A legal assistance and identify theft protection plans are offered (separate or together) at the employee’s cost for part-time and full-time staff.


Public Employee Retirement Association (PERA) is a mandatory retirement savings plan required because of WAH’s municipal status. Both WAH and the employee contribute to this retirement savings plan. As of 1/1/12, employees contribute 6.5% of their gross earnings and WAH contributes 7.5% of the employee’s gross earnings. Retirement benefits are based on years of service and your age at retirement.

MN State Deferred Compensation

Employees may contribute up to 50% of annual taxable income or $18,000 whichever is less. Employees over age 50 can contribute even more. Employees choose investment options, and pre- and after-tax options are available.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The EAP is a confidential counseling service available to all employees and their family members. EAP services are contracted through VitalWorkLife Solutions. Contact 1-800-383-1908 for up to three (per incident, per family) free and confidential appointments.

Financing Clinic & Hospital Bills

WAH employees may designate funds to pay hospital/clinic bills through after-tax payroll deductions.

Wellness Center

Employees receive a 20% discount on memberships. Employees may have their membership paid through payroll deduction. Employee members that use the center 12 times per month will receive reimbursement either through insurance or the fitness center.

Physical Therapy Consultation

WAH employees may seek a complimentary evaluation from the Physical Therapy staff. Subsequent treatments for a medical concern must be ordered by a physician and will be charged as an outpatient procedure.

Job Shadowing

Windom Area Health supports the development of local students interested in, or entering the healthcare industry. When possible, we will provide local students observation and job shadowing experiences upon request.
