Contaminated air or air that lacks oxygen can be harmful to your employees’ health. Inhaling chemical vapors, fumes or dust can damage the lungs and other organs, leading to serious medical conditions.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations require that workers who wear respirators and are exposed to workplace respiratory hazards must participate in a respiratory protection program.

We are dedicated to helping you meet this requirement with:

Respiratory clearance testing
Determines workers’ physical abilities to wear respiratory protection safely and to assist employers’ compliance with the OSHA respiratory protection standard (29 CFR 1910.134). The tests include baseline and annual exams and pulmonary function tests. Our staff is NIOSH-certified to perform these tests.

Respirator fit testing
These tests determine if a respirator provides a proper seal around the face to avoid leaks of contaminated air while in use. We’ll show your employees how to wear a respirator mask and our team can do qualitative testing.

We will help you prevent drug abuse and alcoholism in the workplace. These abuses affect your employee’s safety and productivity, potentially causing:

  • Sixty-five percent of work accidents
  • One-third less productivity from affected employees
  • The usage of three times as many sick days by affected employees

With a focus on employee safety, Windom Area Health provides regulated facilities and certified collectors to meet your testing needs. We work with employers on pre-employment, DOT, random or post-accident collection. We can also work with you to do on-site collections during mass hiring.

Certified Collectors

Drug screening and breath alcohol (BA) collection is a legal process that requires a DOT-certified collector to obtain samples consistently every time. A collector helps and instructs employees at a collection site, inspects the employee-provided specimen and initiates and completes the Federal Drug Testing Custody and Control Form (CCF).

If this collection process is not followed, screenings can be thrown out of court during legal proceedings. If a screening is invalidated, your company will not be able to take action against an employee who used drugs or alcohol in the workplace. Using a certified collector ensures the appropriate processes are followed.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) requires all commercial motor vehicle drivers to be evaluated by a certified medical examiner (CME) to ensure they are healthy enough to safely perform the demanding job of a driver. In the interest of public safety,  commercial drivers are held to higher physical, mental, and emotional standards than passenger car drivers.

Our screenings also follow the latest Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. Our examinations are valid for up to 24 months.

Should an issue be discovered during one of our exams, our certified providers are backed by Sanford Health’s network of medical specialists to help address a problem.
