Cardiac Rehabilitation

Windom Area Health offers outpatient cardiac rehabilitation to educate patients and help regain strength after heart surgery or heart disease. A specialist will monitor your heart rhythm, blood pressure and other important vital signs and design  an exercise program to rebuild the heart muscle to help patients resume their activities of daily living. Cardiac Rehab staff works with the patient on setting individualized goals to reduce risk factors to help prevent future heart events.

Our Cardiac Rehabilitation staff consists of an Exercise Physiologist and Registered Nurses, all ACLS Certified.

This program does require a physician’s referral, so if you feel this could be helpful for your continued heart health journey, ask your primary care provider if Cardiac Rehabilitation is right for you. To learn more, call 507-831-0642.

What to Expect

Cardiac Rehabilitation BP

Cardiac Rehabilitation is an individualized and personalized treatment plan, with evaluation and instruction on physical activity, nutrition, stress management and other health-related areas. The goal is for patients to create heart-healthy diet and exercise habits and implement them in their lives so that when they complete the program, they continue to maintain a healthier lifestyle.

Frequency and duration of visits vary with each patient, ranging from 12 sessions to 36 session. Patients typically attend Cardiac Rehabilitation three times per week at a set time.

Close Call Leads to Lifestyle Transformation

Read about Dan Ortmann, a previous Cardiac Rehabilitation patient, and his health journey after a very close call.

Over Memorial Day weekend in 2022, Dan Ortmann woke up in the middle of the night to chest pains. “It’ll go away,” he said. Dan and his wife Linda carried on with their morning and prepared to leave the house for Saturday graduation parties. When Dan realized the pains were not going away, they made the smart decision to go to the Emergency Room.

Dan was having a heart attack.
