Windom Area Health is excited to announce we will officially be receiving 3D Mammography services starting January 2020. 3D Mammography will be coming on the Edith Sanford Breast Cancer mobile truck, two times per month, on Mondays from 9:30 am-2:00 pm.
Each truck has a waiting area, interview area, two dressing rooms and a mammography suite. Both trucks were completely remodeled on the inside with the installation of Hologic Dimensions 3D mammography units in 2015.
Technologists from both Windom Area Health and Sanford Sioux Falls will be performing the mammograms locally. The mammogram technologists are all board certified in mammography. The mobile trucks are seen as an extension of the Edith Sanford Breast Cancer Center’s main department, bringing the screenings to the patients and making it convenient for them is their goal.
Sanford provides this mobile outreach service to sites in SD, MN and IA (hospitals, clinics and many businesses including school systems have worksite wellness programs that include their screening mammogram services).
The mammograms completed on the mobile unit will be read the next day in Sioux Falls by one of the breast fellowship trained Radiologists. A letter will be sent to the patient, along with results being available on My Sanford Chart. They also send the results to the patient’s physician either by mail or in-basket message (depending on the providers’ preference).
Edith Sanford Breast Cancer Center performed over 4,700 screening mammograms on their mobile trucks in 2018. This number is set to grow with the expansion of their mobile service in 2019.
More information on how to make an appointment will be coming soon. If you have any further questions, feel free to give our Imaging Department a call at 507-407-3271 or visit our website.
