Flu vaccines available for 2015-2016 season
As we approach the 2015-2016 flu season, Windom Area Hospital would like to remind the community that getting your annual flu vaccine is a great way to protecting yourself and your family against the bothersome virus. The Windom Area Hospital Staff was recently awarded the BLUE ribbon level for last flu season, meaning over 90% of our staff was vaccinated. Starting the week of October 12th, staff began to get vaccinated for the upcoming year.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) notes that everyone 6 months and older should get a vaccine as soon as the current season’s vaccines become available. As of mid-October, clinics and health care providers were stocked with the 2015-2016 version of the shot.
While there are many different strains of influenza, the current vaccine will protect against the virus that research suggests will be most common.
In addition to the vaccine, you should avoid contact with sick people, limit your own contact with people if you are sick, visit your doctor to get antiviral drugs, cover your nose/mouth when you cough and sneeze and most importantly, wash your hands often with soap and water.
