Windom Area Health Receives COVID-19 Vaccine

Distribution Planning Underway for Healthcare Workers

COVID-19 Vaccine

Windom, MN │ December 17 2020 – Windom Area Health (WAH) will receive an allotment of the Pfizer Vaccination Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine next week. The Pfizer vaccine received emergency approval from the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) on December 11th, 2020. We have been working with the Minnesota Department of Health, the Southwest Healthcare Preparedness Coalition, and local Public Health on identifying those healthcare workers who would be in the initial phase of vaccination.

WAH plans to perform vaccinations on Tuesday, December 22nd, and possibly Wednesday, December 23rd, depending upon the number of doses received in our allotment. The Pfizer vaccine requires a second dose to be administered 21 days after the first dose.

We anticipate working with our local Public Health to provide additional vaccinations of the Moderna product once it becomes available to us.

More information on COVID vaccines is available on the CDC website at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/index.html.
