Swing Bed Services

What is it?

swing bed

Windom Area Health’s Swing Bed program provides short term care to patients who no longer need acute hospital care, but still require daily skilled nursing or rehabilitation services before returning home.

Some examples of skilled care services include:

  • Physical, occupational and/or speech therapy
  • Daily IV medications
  • Daily wound care
  • Rehabilitation following joint replacement or orthopedic surgery

Referrals

In addition to offering this service for our own patients, Windom Area Health accepts referrals for swing bed services from all other acute care hospitals.

Windom Area Health evaluates all referrals to determine appropriateness and eligibility.

Medicare and Private Insurance

Swing Bed services are often covered by Medicare and private insurances.  Prior authorization is required for some insurance plans prior to admission.
