Stroke Month: What to Know

May is American Stroke Month.  One American dies from a stroke every 4 minutes and it is the 6th leading cause of death in Minnesota.

Time lost is brain lost and the clock starts as soon as you see the signs and symptoms of a stroke. Make sure your family and friends know the warning signs. It could save their life.

Remember BE FAST for signs/symptoms of stroke:

  • Balance loss
  • Eyesight changes
  • Face drooping
  • Arm weakness
  • Slurred speech
  • Time to call 911

Your care starts in the ambulance and Emergency Medical Services is an important part of our Acute Stroke Ready team. Windom Area Health is an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital, and we are prepared to provide the best possible care for our community and surrounding area.
