The Giving Tree project continues to grow and thrive! The project was founded in 2018 through the Windom Area Health’s (WAH) Employee Focus Committee to provide assistance to children and families in need during the holiday season. “We want to give back to the communities we serve and our goal is to help more kids every year,” states Kim Armstrong, WAH Executive Director of Compliance and Foundation/Auxiliary and chair of the Giving Tree committee.
WAH staff work with school counselors in Cottonwood and Jackson counties and a county agency to identify children in need and collect wish lists from their parents/guardians. WAH employees, departments and local community partners sponsor a child, or children, with a recommended gift amount of $50 each.
Our community partners include: EMS, Windom Fire Department, City of Windom, Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Department, Medina Martial Arts, Windom Police, Sanford Clinics in Windom and Mountain Lake, Wellness and Vitality Chiropractic, Windom Family Medical Clinic and Windom Kiwanis Club. New partners in 2022 are Defries Collision, B.C. Johnson Construction, PEO Sisterhood Chapter J, and the Hair Hut.
Part of our core values at Windom Area Health are Teamwork, Stewardship and Excellence. Through the Giving Tree project, we see these values prevalent in our community. It is our hope that the children and families sponsored in this event enjoy it as much as we do. We would like to thank everyone involved in this event for their participation. To celebrate our five years of coordinating the program, ornaments will be available for Giving Tree participants.
