What is Direct Access Lab Testing?

Have you ever wondered how you could get some lab tests completed without having to get an order from a doctor? Have you wondered how to get lab tests done a little cheaper and not have to go through your insurance? Now there is a fast and easy way of doing that. It’s called Direct Access Testing.

Windom Area Health offers Direct Access Laboratory Testing, which gives you the freedom to order several lab tests quickly, conveniently and confidentially without visiting the doctor. All testing is done in our accredited laboratory and performed by the laboratory staff at Windom Area Health. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian (with the exception of a pregnancy test.) Direct Access Laboratory Testing was developed to help you monitor certain ongoing health risks or to assess the potential for health risks. The tests are a helpful tool, but should not be used as a substitute to visiting your doctor on a regular basis. All tests are offered pay-for-service. Insurance will not be billed and payment is required at the time of service. We accept all major credit cards.

The hours of Direct Access Testing are as follows:
Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:00pm
Closed Weekends and Holidays

The benefits of going through Direct Access is that it may be cheaper than going through your insurance. There is no need for an order from a doctor. You can pick whichever test(s) you would like, pay for them, go to the lab and they will happily draw your blood. The results can be put on your Sanford My Chart, mailed to you or you can pick up the results when they are all completed.

When you want to have blood drawn for the Direct Access Testing all you have to do is call Windom Area Health Scheduling Department at 507-831-2400 and they will schedule an appointment for you. We like to have patients scheduled for appointments in order to prevent everyone from coming at the same time. We have many patients that we see throughout our day and this can help avoid long wait times. Starting May 1st the price for all the tests will be increased. To take advantage of our current prices before they go up, make sure to call and get an appointment scheduled before the end of April.
