Tuning Up and Living Well

You may not be able to find every hospital employee in the cafeteria during their lunch hour. Instead, you will find a number of them in the Fitness Center at Windom Area Health, participating in a Tune Up class. This is a free class offered to all hospital employees from 11:45 am to 12:15 pm every day of the week, instructed by our Community Health and Wellness Coordinator, Amber Hughes.

The class includes a mixture of strength and cardiovascular conditioning, providing employees with a quick workout over their lunch hour, during their busy days. This class has helped participating employees stay on track with their fitness goals. “I KNOW I have a stronger core, and stronger legs and arms,” says Tune Up participant Jill Liepold. Between eating and drinking well at home, walking on the Be Well Path and participating in the Tune Up class, Jill has lost a total of 55 pounds. “I have surprised myself!”

Along with participating in the Tune Up class, many of the employees use the newly constructed Be Well Path at Windom Area Health during the spring, summer and fall seasons. The 2/3 mile long path has provided another outlet for employees to stay healthy and active, often times walking laps during their breaks.

Joan Olsem, a Windom Area Health employee who uses the Be Well Path mentions, “I think the path is awesome. It is a great addition for not only the employees, but the community as well.”

Since opening in June of 2017, there have been employee walking challenges on the path, a grand opening event and a Spooktacular Path Halloween event that have brought the community and employees of the Windom Area Health together.

Here at Windom Area Health, we continue to strive to improve the health and wellness of our community members regardless of economic status; by providing fitness classes and the Be Well Path, so people of the community and employees can ‘Feel Awesome. Live Healthy. Be Well.’
