Spotlight on Heart Health

Did you know that by age 80, there is a 60 percent chance that you will have high blood pressure? (John Hopkins Medicine, n.d.). Heart health is important and early intervention is key to saving lives. We can reduce the risk of heart disease by committing to a healthy lifestyle, exercising routinely and seeing a doctor on a regular basis to manage your heart health. This February we are shining a spotlight on some of our heart services and events we offer here at Windom Area Health.

National Cardiac Rehabilitation Week – February 10-16, 2019

Windom Area Health is celebrating our Cardiac Rehabilitation services during the week of February 10th-16th. Cardiac Rehabilitation is offered at Windom Area Health to educate patients and help them regain strength after heart surgery or heart disease. This rehabilitation consists of our Cardiac Rehabilitation Coordinator, Wendy Wenner, monitoring your heart rhythm, blood pressure and other important vital signs. She will then design an exercise program to rebuild the heart muscle to help patients resume their activities of daily living. Our Cardiac Rehab staff works with the patient on setting individualized goals to reduce risk factors to help prevent future heart events. Duration of Cardiac Rehab varies with each patient, varying from 12 sessions to 36 sessions. Patients typically attend cardiac rehab three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) at a set time. Our staff consists of an ACLS certified Registered Nurse and the program is guided by Dr. Steven Hartberg. A physician’s referral is required to participate in the Cardiac Rehabilitation program. To learn more, please call 507-831-0642.
