Recipients of 2024 Windom Area Health Foundation Scholarships Announced

Windom, MN – Together with Windom Area Health, the Foundation’s mission is to promote exceptional quality care and wellbeing for rural communities in southwest Minnesota. Aligned with its mission, the Windom Area Health Foundation recently awarded several continuing education scholarships to local students pursuing careers in the healthcare field. Previous recipients of these scholarships have come back to work in the Windom area.

For the first time this year, the Foundation awarded two $2,500 scholarships. The winners of the $2,500 awards were Kendyl Sammons from Windom and Tristyn Maras from Windom. A $1,000 scholarship was awarded to Emily Schmiesing from Walnut Grove. Hailey Veenker from Windom received the $1,000 Mildred Klosterbuer Memorial scholarship, and Elese Paplow from Lakefield received the Ron Meyer Memorial scholarship.

To be eligible for the scholarships, students must be high school seniors or college students planning to pursue a healthcare related field and reside in Cottonwood County or its adjacent surrounding counties. Scholarships were awarded based on the student’s strong academic excellence, leadership, integrity, community service, and commitment to following a course of study relevant to healthcare.

Applications were reviewed by the Scholarship Committee of the Windom Area Health Foundation. Scholarships are made possible by generous community donations and individual donors, some who give in memory of a loved one.

While the 2024 round is closed, the Foundation plans to offer scholarships in future years. For more information about how to give to our Education Fund, contact Katie Greener, Director of Foundation and Auxiliary at 507-831-0633 or [email protected].

Congratulations to those selected and thank you to everyone who applied for the 2024 scholarships! Watch for the announcement of future scholarships here on the Windom Area Health website or on the Windom Area Health Facebook Page.
