The 14th Annual “Heroes Behind the Badges” blood drive ended helping multiple patients. The blood drive held on September 16 was a friendly competition between Windom Law Enforcement / EMS and Windom Fire Department. All of the departments recruited donors to help boost the fall blood supply for Windom Area Health. In the end it was the Windom Law Enforcement / EMS winning with 38 donation votes vs. Windom Fire Department with 16 donation votes. The event will impact up to 123 patients’ lives throughout the local area.
During the blood drive donors could designate their donation to the department of their choice. All the blood collected helped local area patients.
“This was a great turnout from the community with over 50 donors turning out for the event,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “Just coming off the summer months the blood supply continues to be challenged due to decreases in donations and a consistent need for blood within the community. This was a well attended blood drive and will help save multiple local patients lives.”
On behalf of Windom Area Health, Community Blood Bank would like to thank the volunteer blood donors making the difference in the blood supply. Community Blood Bank is the sole provider of blood and blood products to Windom Area Hospital and 33 other local hospitals.
Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org), weigh 110 lbs. or more and be in good general health the day of the donation. Please bring an I.D. It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluid prior to donating. Community Blood Bank is not associated with any other blood bank organizations.
