Competition to Impact Local Blood Supply This Fall
Windom, MN- Windom Area Hospital, Law Enforcement, EMS and Fire Department are joining forces to help ward off fall blood shortages by hosting the annual Heroes Behind the Badges blood drive event. The special blood drive event will be held on Monday, September 10 from 11:30am to 1:30pm and 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm at Windom Area Hospital.
The public is encouraged to designate their blood donation in honor of the department of their choice, show support of local heroes and impact the local blood supply. All who donate will receive a blood donor t-shirt and the satisfaction of know you saved a life in your community. The department with the most donations will receive the traveling trophy and bragging rights for the year.
“This competition between the local heroes in the community provides encouragement and education about the need for blood in local hospitals throughout the most difficult times of year to keep up with demands,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “Through the tremendous support from the Windom Law Enforcement, EMS, Fire Department and community blood donors, we are able to provide blood to our local patients requiring surgery, treatment of cancer, trauma’s and many other medical conditions at Windom Area Hospital.”
Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form), weigh 110 lbs or more and be in good general health. It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating blood. Please bring an ID with you at the time of donation.
