Cancer Care Close to Home

Cancer Care Close to Home

Cancer. It can be a frightening diagnosis, whether it applies to you or a loved one. Here at Windom Area Health, we want you to know that you are not alone on your journey. Not only does our specialized staff of Registered Nurses take care of your physical needs, we are here to offer emotional and spiritual support if needed.

We work closely with your oncology team to provide you with the chemotherapy treatment needed. We are able to administer IV infusions (medications given thru your vein), injections of medications (shots given to help keep your body as healthy as possible to keep it fighting), and also, CADD pump start and removal (a pump you wear that gives you chemo medications for a period of time that your doctor determines). Along with the medications needed to fight your cancer, we are able to give you an infusion of IV fluids to help keep you hydrated on those days following your chemotherapy when you aren’t feeling quite your best.

If having your cancer care closer to home is for you, don’t hesitate to speak to your Cancer doctor about it at your appointment. We would be happy to work with them to arrange the care needed for you closer to home.

In the past couple of years, things have been even more difficult than normal. With having to stop in person meetings and support groups. Currently, the Cancer Support Group that was meeting in the hospital cafeteria has suspended their meetings to protect those with weakened immune systems. However, if you feel you would like some extra support during this difficult time, please reach out to Carol Hartman 831-4235, the group facilitator. She would be able to assist you with extra support and possibly point you in the direction of an open meeting, if any are available at this time.

Remember, at Windom Area Health we are here to help you through this journey that you or a loved one may be facing. No one should be alone.
